What are Tree Scoops?
Demystifying the Tree Scoop: A Versatile Tool for Landscaping
A tree scoop is a durable attachment, most commonly for skid steers and compact tractors, designed for digging, transplanting, and removing small trees, shrubs, and root balls. Unlike its more complex counterpart, the hydraulic tree spade with multiple blades, the tree scoop is typically a simpler, single-blade or U-shaped bucket attachment. Its straightforward design makes it an economical and versatile tool for a wide range of landscaping and agricultural tasks.
How a Tree Scoop Works
Operating a tree scoop is a more manual process compared to a fully hydraulic tree spade. An operator uses the power of the skid steer or tractor to take several passes, or “scoops,” around the base of a tree or shrub. This action cuts the roots and loosens the soil. Once the root ball is sufficiently isolated, the operator uses the scoop to lift and transport the entire plant to a new location or for disposal. The same tool can then be used to efficiently dig the receiving hole.
